A new Head Boy and Head Girl have been elected for the new academic year 2009/10.

12 year olds Matthew Barker and Beth Nickels were elected by the whole school from among several strong candidates to represent the school at official events.   Deputies will be Daniel Fox and Ella Keal.

Head Boy Matthew loves sport, particularly tennis and last year was a Year 7 Sports Captain.  He says he is good at communicating with people, is very responsible and persevering.  He mostly spends his spare time with his family, keeping his elder brothers in check.

Beth says “I believe I am a good leader, willing to listen and help others and capable of making responsible decisions.”  Beth has represented the school in rounders, hockey, music, athletics and maths, enjoys dancing and is looking forward to fulfilling her new position with pride and maturity.

Deputy Daniel Fox is a keen cyclist, practices Tae Kwon-Do and enjoys his drama lessons. Ella Keal, Deputy Head Girl, is a keen dancer and enjoys participating in theatre productions. Her favourite subjects are art and textiles.

Headteacher, Paul Rushforth, said:

“We are all delighted that Matthew and Beth have been elected.  They fought their campaigns very well, against particularly tough competition and I am sure will both do an excellent job representing and helping to further improve Minehead Middle School, ably supported by Daniel and Ella.”
