At Minehead Middle School, pupils build upon their existing knowledge of computing to become confident users of technology. We are a ‘Lead School’ in the Computing at Schools Network of Excellence, as well as being a ‘Kodu School’ – an accolade awarded by Microsoft.

Pupils develop many skills over their time at Minehead Middle School including:

Graphic design

Game creation

Facilities and Resources:

Technology is used throughout the curriculum to enhance understanding. All teachers have an iPad that can be used by individuals or connected to their interactive whiteboard to develop skills and understanding. There are three ICT suites and a class set of Surface tablets that are used primarily for blogging and research within a classroom setting which are also available to pupils. Additionally, all pupils have access to the school’s VLE, Moodle, where they can access materials for their lessons and homework. We also have a set of Lego Mindstorms robots which are used to learn about programming and robotics.

Each year, Year 6 pupils work alongside Year 4 pupils from the Exmoor Coast Federation in a ‘Game Design Day’ where they create a computer game using Microsoft Kodu. Each Year 5 class create entries for the Kodu Kup (a national game design competition run by Microsoft). We have been extremely successful in this competition since it began in 2013:

2013: Finalists

2014: Winners of Primary award

2015: Winners of Judges’ Choice award
